Chabot is committed to helping parents inspire and educate their kids to become the next generation of science leaders, innovators and dreamers.
We offer many fun family activities that help accomplish this goal as well as have fun together and create memories that will last a lifetime!
Spend the night in the museum, become a member, marvel at the large Moon Rock on display, go on a mission together in our Challenger Learning Center® and look at galaxies far far away. Don't forget to pick up some Astronaut ice cream in our Starry Nights Gift Shop before you return home.

NASA Family Night
Destination Station
Friday, March 9 (6pm - 9pm)
FREE with General Admission
Destination Station is NASA Johnson Space Center's national awareness campaign that promotes research opportunities, educates communities about activities preformed on the International Space Station, and communicates the real and potential impacts of the station on our everyday lives. This special NASA visit to Chabot will include astronaut presentations, autographs, demonstrations and craft activities for the whole family.

For Ages 2 1/2 - 5 years
Join your Tyke Explorer in discovering a variety of science topics through the work and art of children's author, Eric Carle.
Moonlight Hike
Friday, March 2 (5pm)
Hike through the redwoods in twilight and moonlight on a moderately strenuous 4-5 mi hike. Hikes are led by an experienced hiker and Chabot educator and feature discussions about the natural environment and events and objects in the sky. Hike will take place rain or shine.

Where Social Meets Science

2012: The Future. Curious what your future holds? NightSchool's Extra Credit will examine the future from many angles including scientific, spiritual, technological and philosophical. What better place to toy with big kid questions than at a super cool science center with colossal telescopes, fascinating exhibits, great food, drinks and plenty of friendly smart people to postulate with!
Women's History Month
Saturday, March 17 (11am - 5pm)
FREE with General Admission
Visit the "Out of this World" lab where recorded biographical interviews of Women pioneers from the early days of the space program will be shown throughout the day. Rocket Girls and Astronettes is narrated by astronaut Mae Jemison. Participate in online scavenger hunts about the participants featured in the videos. Play the Chabot-produced Expedition to Mars board game, which features famous female Astronauts.

Earth Hour

On Earth Hour hundreds of millions of people will come together to call for action on climate change by doing something quite simple - turning off their lights for one hour. Chabot will join the world's largest global climate change event and so can you. We will be shutting off most of our lights at 8:30pm. Join us on our observatory deck to watch the Bay Area go dark! "From the Deathstar to Wall-E and Beyond!"
Ever wonder who created the voice for R2D2, Wall-E, or Darth Vadar's heavy breathing? Join us for a rousing evening of dynamic conversation about the science of noise and sound effects from the one and only Ben Burtt, Sound Designer and Director, Lucasfilm/Pixar.
Ben has won four Academy Awards for Sound Effects in such films as E.T., Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, for which he created the sound of the lightsabers by mixing the humming sound of his TV set - tuned between channels - with the sound of an old 35mm projector. Ben was a Physics major and has enjoyed an illustrious career in the motion picture industry for over 30 years. "Sound Effects in the movies are there to create an illusion," says Burtt, "But behind all this sonic "make-believe", I exploit scientific principles to create special noises.".jpg)

Take a field trip to Chabot and celebrate Earth month with an invigorating night hike, contribute to science, race to find climate change solutions in our award-winning Climate Lab and connect with earth-friendly people and ideas over music, drinks and locally grown food.

Enjoy an entertaining evening with Bill Nye the Climate Guy - scientist, engineer, comedian, author, and inventor, and a man with a mission: to help foster a scientifically literate society and to help people everywhere understand and appreciate the science that makes our world work. And dare we say - Change the World!
Bill Nye is also the Executive Director of the Planetary Society, the world’s largest space interest organization. He is the driving force behind Chabot's Bill Nye's Climate Lab exhibition, where visitors learn how to be a climate scientist, while showcasing the humor and education skills of the Emmy Award-winning personality.
